JOHN V. STEVENS, SR. has devoted forty years to the cause of religious freedom and is a nationally recognized authority on liberty of conscience and the Establishment Clause of the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.

Posts Mr. Stevens has held include Trustee with Americans United for Separation of Church and State—and Founder, President, and Executive Director of the Council on Religious Freedom, and Founders First Freedom.

 

During his career, Mr. Stevens has worked closely with several U.S. administrations, the U.S. Congress, and many state legislatures. Bills he has suggested have been passed into law, and he has successfully filed cases with the judiciary system on behalf of religious freedom issues.

Internationally, Mr. Stevens has represented the cause of freedom of religion and conscience with government leadership in England, Brazil, the former USSR, Hungary, Yugoslavia, Kenya, the All Africa Congress, and in the South Pacific.

His published works in addition to this present volume include several booklets on the subject of religious freedom. His articles have appeared in Baylor’s Journal of Church and State, Americans United’s Church & State, Signs of the Times, and Liberty magazines, as well as items in the Los Angeles Times, USA Today, and the Arizona Republic. A presentation made before the National ReligiousBroadcasters’ Association was included in theCongressional Record.

In addition to his radio and television interviews, Mr. Stevens is a frequent speaker before audiences
meeting in venues ranging from assembly halls to service clubs and churches.

He received his B.A. in Religion from Union College in 1949 and an M.A. in Speech and Homiletics from Potomac University in 1950.

  Stevens has worked in the field of religious freedom for over forty years. He has served as a trustee with Americans United for the Separation of Church and State.

Founded two religious liberty organizations, Council on Religious Freedom and Founders First Freedom He served at their president and executive director.

  During this period of time he has contacted state and federal legislatures which have passed his suggested bills into law, government administration and filed cases successfully with the judiciary system in behalf of religious freedom.

The Book

Due to the controversial nature of abortion, it should have very broad interest on the part of professional clergy, lay members, sociology professors and students, those who are deeply engrossed with culture, and the political spectrum from voters to elected representatives as well as the federal and state judiciary. Many will seek to learn the contents of the book.
